Hunters Middlesbrough

Market Comment, Steve McDonald

The newest member of the team at Hunters Middlesbrough, Steve McDonald, gives us his thoughts on the housing market at present. Steve is an experienced valuer and has joined us from Manners and Harrison. He will be helping us to expand into Yarm, Eaglescliffe and Stockton.

“A range of factors are indicating that the housing market is now recovering; this recovery is broad-based across most parts of the UK, with a rebound in mortgage approvals, turnover, prices and starts. In addition to the Help to Buy Scheme which was launched in the Budget, the buy to let market is reviving. There has also been a backlog of demand whereby the number of first-time buyers has been around half of the usual figure over the last five years. As the economy is improving, this backlog is expected to stimulate a substantial further rise in demand, helping to lift the market.”

Welcome to our new Personal Agent

Stockton-born Steve McDonald is back on home territory after joining Hunters’ fast-growing Teesside team as their personal agent for Stockton, Yarm and Eaglescliffe.

Experienced Steve is the latest recruit at the most northerly branch of the UK’s fastest-growing estate agency.

Having enjoyed great success in Ingleby Barwick over the past 12 months, Hunters are expanding into Stockton, Yarm and Eaglescliffe on the back of figures revealing that they sold more properties during August than any other branch within the group’s national network of more than 100 branches.

An estate agent for nearly 20 years, Steve has previously worked with estate agents in Middlesbrough, Yarm, Stockton, Darlington, Northallerton and Stokesley.

His commitment to customer service helped one of his previous employers become the Daily Express Estate Agency of the Year, while he has spent the last two years working as manager-valuer for a large Middlesbrough estate agent.

But now he says he is looking forward to “exciting times” as he looks to help Hunters to continue to buck the property trend on the back of a year-on-year 30% increase in sales.

Steve said: “It’s a big patch to cover but I know Stockton like the back of my hand, as I was born and bred here, so I’m delighted to have this opportunity. There’s a cracking range of housing in the area, from start-up homes to executive, I firmly believe Stockton, Yarm and Eaglescliffe are great places to live."

“The redevelopment of Stockton High Street and the way the town is trying to make more of its proximity to the River Tees mean there are plenty of positives about the town."

“I have had more traditional roles in the past but what I like about Hunters is it’s a very personal service. From booking a viewing through to completion of a sale, I will be the one customers deal with. Our focus is on getting a real feel for the sort of property potential vendors are looking for so that we can arrange viewings that suit their requirements.”

Steve hit the ground running when he quickly secured his first home for sale, a period property on Stockton’s Allendale Road that retains much of its charm. With an impressive entrance, the four-bed property features a lounge with bay window and period fireplace, separate dining room with rear garden aspect, together with a large garage, off-road parking and larger-than-average rear garden. In need of updating, the potentially fantastic family home is priced &265,000.

Voted Best Lettings Partner for the entire northern region of Hunters’ national network, the agency now has eight personal agents across the Teesside region.

Our success in 2013

Hunters the Estate Agent in Middlesbrough have been celebrating a great start to the year, particularly in one of our key markets, in and around the TS5 postcode area. The area includes Linthorpe, Tollesby, Acklam and Brookfield, and is covered by two of Hunters’ Personal Agents, Sean O’Gara and Ian Paterson.

Sean O’Gara says, “We just can't stop selling in TS5, our results so far this year (see the chart below) are a real testament to how we do business. The Personal Agent model really does allow for exceptional customer service and the feedback that I receive is always positive.”

“There’s no substitute for the hard work and dedication put in by each Personal Agent,” adds Ian. "This revolutionary business model means that the customers deals with just one person throughout the moving process, a real local expert. From outset to move day, and accompanied viewings in between, we’re there to help every step of the way.”
