Hunters - 20 years old but our passion is as strong as ever!

How times flies!  We opened our first Hunters branch in Goodramgate, York, in April 1992 with the twin ambition of offering a first class estate agency service and having lots of fun in the process.  Our network is now 126 branches strong and covers most of England, from Blyth in the North to Hastings in the South, and includes 40 offices in London and the South East.  We are often asked whether we ever intended to grow so much and the answer is always the same - yes!  We believed then, as we do now, that the customer is under-served by many of our competitors and that there is a huge opportunity for a company that produces great results and makes the moving process enjoyable.

The ambition hasn't diminished with time; our dream is simple - we want Hunters to be the UK's favourite estate agent.  We are now the 6th largest estate agency brand in the UK and have set our sights on becoming no.1 by 2015.  We will achieve this by investing more time, money and expertise in customer service, solutions and technology than any other estate agency chain.

We believe that our customers are best served by estate agents who own and run their own businesses supported by a strong national brand - franchising is the perfect system to deliver this solution.  In our view a network of business ownders is more effective, provides better local knowledge and personal service than the command and control, manager merry-go-round environment favoured by many corporate estate agents.

We are tremendously excited about the future - despite the significant challenges we face in the current market we believe that the market will remain stable.  Probably the biggest change we have seen to the estate agency world over the last 10 years has been the rising importance of lettings to our business.  We have demonstrated that a good balanced business that focuses on both selling and letting properties can be highly successful, even in the lower volume sales market that we see today.  We hope to continue to provide great service to you for another twenty years.

Homeward Bound

Financial restrictions caused by the recession have highlighted a new interior design trend towards spending more time in our own homes. Apparently, staying in is the new going out and - as such - our houses are evolving into places where we actually want to spend more time! Having bought a new home, many simply want to batten down the hatches and truly enjoy the ‘most expensive purchase we ever make’.

Features such as games rooms, home cinema spaces or a simple quiet, well-lit hobby room are being increasingly demanded by potential purchasers. Many more people are now working from home - or hoping to do so in the future - so homes with potential home office space are always going to be popular.

So far as decorating these spaces goes, interior designers have taken a step away from the usual minimalist style. Great lighting and storage are key elements and a new style has evolved; a look that isn't too sweet or fussy but has a quintessentially English country feel about it. Understated, elegant - but with personality - and somehow managing to work equally well in both town and country properties.
